Forum: classic_tv Subject: Well this sounds like a giant plug for the sponsor!

Today I read about a show called "Choose Your Partner".
This aired on station WGN-TV at some point in the 1950s (the surviving episode is from 1954):

""Game show in which contestants have to choose which person on a panel of experts specializes in a particular category. The experts are all Marshall Field employees and are experts in different lines and departments of the store.
Commercials: Marshall Field Department Store. ""

....speaking of giant plugs, it is a shame we'll never get to see certain other giant plugs like "Tales of the Red Caboose" and "The Strawhatters" aka "Summer in the Park".

BUT!

Seven episodes survive of "The Roar of the Rails", a giant plug that aired during 1948 and 1949 on CBS. The surviving episodes are from 1949.

The show featured products by A.C. Gilbert, which might make it nostalgic today.

They survive via the Library of Congress in the "J. Fred and Leslie W. MacDonald Collection" (a mysterious and possibly supernatrual archive which held some amazingly rare shows before the contents were donated to the Library of Congress, which now has a much improved classic TV collection).

The same collection also has kinescopes of another giant plug: "The Arthur Murray Party"!! That's my favourite giant plug ever.

BTW, the Internet Archive has two episodes of a giant plug called "The Magic Clown". I won't comment on the quality of the show (or lack thereof).
